Latona Elementary is nestled in the beautiful hillsides of Montecito Heights overlooking downtown Los Angeles and just minutes from the 110 Freeway. Latona Elementary offers many experiences for its students. Our school offers Early Transitional Kindergarten (ETK) through Sixth Grade classes. We have a culturally diverse faculty and our staff is bilingual in Spanish and Chinese. Staff members have an average teaching experience of 19 years. We offer small class sizes and personal attention to our
students. Latona Elementary offers several programs in addition to the regular curriculum. We have LA’s Best and East Youth Services (EYS). We have an Integrated Arts Program that gives students an opportunity to participate in music, drama, visual arts and dance.
In addition, we have a computer lab that gives our students access to technology and supports their work on 21st Century skills. Our sixth grade classroom offers a computer to each student.
Latona believes in supporting all students in their learning. We differentiate instruction to support English Learners. Our gifted students receive instruction that meet their needs. We have a Scholars Club that gives students opportunities to work on projects involving depth and complexity, collaboration and communication through debates.
Our school provides numerous opportunities for parents and community to be involved in the school. Some of the activities that we have throughout the year are Back to School Night, Family Movie Night, Monthly Coffee with Principal meetings, parent workshops, Career Day, Read Across America, Mother’s Day Event, Fall Festival, Winter Holiday Performance Program, talent show, college visit for parents, UCLA partnership, etc. Latona teachers value students’ achievement and success.
